Acupuncture is an ancient therapy rooted in Chinese Medicine. Acupuncture theory states that pain and disease are caused by imbalances in the flow of blood and Qi (energy) within our body.
Through the practice of acupuncture, these imbalances can be removed and corrected, allowing the body to be restored to a state of balanced healing. At Healing Hands Veterinary Acupuncture and Wellness, we practice many forms of acupuncture including traditional needle acupuncture, laser acupuncture, aquapuncture, electroacupuncture, moxibustion, and the use of sound energy to stimulate acupuncture points through the application of tuning forks. Acupuncture is commonly used to treat conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, back/neck pain, intervertebral disc diseases, paralyzed nerves, respiratory conditions, anxiety, digestive conditions, and much more.
Acupuncture can be utilized as a treatment option to help manage a vast array of diseases and symptoms. Most patients enjoy acupuncture and find their sessions very relaxing. An acupuncture session is also an opportunity for quality bonding time for both pet and owner as they take a break out of their day to be present for one another.
Forms of Acupuncture:
Involves injecting small amounts of sterile solutions into the acupuncture points of interest. The fluid dilates the acupuncture point and provides prolonged effects that may be seen for 2 to 3 weeks after a treatment session. Common injectable solutions include Vitamin B-12, Adequan, and various homeopathic agents.
Involves attaching a machine to the acupuncture needles that delivers a gentle electrical current into the acupuncture points to stimulate the surrounding muscles, nerves, and connective tissues. It is ideal for pain, neurologic conditions, and muscle atrophy.
Offers a combination of high-tech laser therapy with the 3,000-year-old art of Chinese acupuncture to maximize patients’ results. It is pain free with shorter treatment times, making it ideal for needle-phobic, nervous, or wiggly patients.
Is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called “moxa” are burned very near the skin surface. It is an excellent treatment option for pain and arthritis. Elderly patients, in particular, benefit from moxibustion therapy.
Acupuncture points can be stimulated using the sound energy generated by tuning forks. The sound waves travel into the tissues and produce the same effects of traditional acupuncture only with no needles and no discomfort. Tuning forks can also be used during osteopathy to promote myofascial release and during reiki for chakra alignment and emotional healing.
